I wrote this guide because I kept getting the same question over and over from students taking my course:
That was a question I asked a lot, too, when I started my freelance career in 2018.
Prior to that, I’d already been working in the digital marketing industry for a decade, first as a content writer, then a section editor, and eventually the director of content.
But I hated working in offices. I wanted that freelance life—the ability to work with clients I wanted, and get paid enough that I could cut down my working hours for a better work-life balance.
So I quit my job as director of content, and struck out on my own.
There were some stumbling blocks, but in my first year, I made over $100,000. By my second year, I was earning more than I’d ever dreamt of at my agency jobs, and working half as many hours.
Over the years, I’ve figured out what separates the clients that pay well from the “nickel and dime” masses.
I tried virtually every channel I could think of to find clients. I spent hours cold pitching in different ways. And now, I never have to hunt for clients.
Instead, clients are hunting for me.
This guidebook is a breakdown of all those strategies I’ve tested and honed over the last 15 years.
The templates I’ve added on are built offthe exact emails I sent to land some of my highest-paying long-term clients.
